What’s In Season: A Summer Produce Guide to Glowing from the Inside Out!

July 02, 2025

Every season brings in new produce, and often that produce can help combat what the weather brings us. Today we’re going to look into some summer produce that helps keep you hydrated in the heat, protected in the sun, and keeps your mood high so you can glow from the inside out!

Stay Hydrated

It’s no secret that we all need to drink more water in the summertime. The heat and humidity lead us to sipping water all day. However, there are a few summertime fruits and veggies that can aid in keeping you hydrated as well.

Watermelon – Aptly named, the watermelon is 92% water, which makes it a great choice for the summer months. Watermelon can be turned into many refreshing summer drinks. You can blend it fresh or frozen, and add lemon, lime, ginger, and a little salt to make a delicious hydrating drink full of electrolytes.

Cucumbers – These crunchy veggies are a whopping 96% water, making them a great way to stay hydrated. You can eat them on their own or with your favorite dip, but they are also great in a cucumber salad. Just chop them up and add rice vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, scallions, toasted sesame seeds, and a little maple syrup or honey. It’s hard to put down, and when you finish it, you’ll be satisfied and hydrated!

Tomatoes – Whether you consider it a savory fruit or a sweeter veggie, the tomato contains 94% water! It’s great for keeping you hydrated. A simple caprese salad is perfect for hot days. Just chop tomatoes or use cherry ones and mix them with fresh mozzarella, basil, and a drizzle of olive oil.

Sun Protection:

It’s important to know that the only way to protect your skin from the sun is by covering up with sunscreen or UV blocking clothing. However, certain foods contain antioxidants that may help your skin maintain a strong barrier against the sun.

Green Tea – Sipping an iced green tea by the pool makes for a perfect afternoon. Consuming green tea has a lot of health benefits, including skin-boosting properties and an added kick of natural caffeine. You can also look for topical skin treatments made with green tea to double up on its potential protection.

Dark Chocolate – Perhaps the most luxurious treat on this list, dark chocolate is very rich in polyphenols that can help strengthen your skin barrier. A popular online trend is to let some dark chocolate melt near you while you sunbathe, and then dip fresh fruits in it. You’re boosting your antioxidants and hydration in one delicious snack!

Blueberries – Stop by a local fruit stand this time of year and you’re bound to find deliciously sweet blueberries. This summer treat is full of powerful antioxidants and vitamin C, making them a great addition to both your nutrition and your skin care!

Mood Boosting:

While the summertime is full of bright light and warmth, it can also be a busy and humid time that may feel stressful. To keep your spirits high so you can make the most of the season, don’t skip these serotonin-boosting foods!

Cherries – Dark red cherries in the summer are sweet enough to boost your mood just from tasting them. However, they also contain flavonoids, which may play a role in reducing stress symptoms.

Pineapple – This bright fruit contains tryptophan, an antioxidant that boosts serotonin. Try blending it with coconut water for a piña colada-type drink that will boost your mood and hydrate you!

Avocados – These delicious fruits are full of B vitamins and healthy fats, both of which are essential for healthy brain function! So grab some garlic, lime, onions, jalapeno, and salt to mix together and make guacamole – it’s delicious and good for you!

Stay happy, healthy, and hydrated this summer!
