May 07, 2025

Cozy rainy evenings, sunny afternoons with the windows open, spring is here in your home! One of the best ways to reflect the new energy of the season is by decorating your home with flower arrangements. Below you’ll find tips on how to turn your home into a garden safely, efficiently, and in style.

Where to Place Them:

While there is no wrong answer on where to place flowers in your home, there are traditional placements that everyone loves, new trending ideas, and the rules of feng shui you can look to for guidance.

Classic Placements – The standard placements for flowers in the home are on dining tables, windowsills, and the center of rooms. Your living room coffee table is the most standard place for a fresh bouquet.

New Ideas – Some fresh and unexpected places to decorate with flowers include in your bathroom! A small accent table with a fresh bouquet can breathe freshness into your bathroom. You can also use herb-like and green bouquets in the kitchen to make it smell great even when you aren’t cooking.

Rules of Feng Shui – In Feng Shui, it’s recommended to place flowers in the entryway of your home and in each room. Take caution in placing flowers in the bedroom, as too much visual noise or smell can disrupt sleep!

What Blooms to Use:

Your favorite flowers are the obvious answer, but what other blooms could bring an extra elevation to your home?

Flowers for Good Energy – Some of the best flowers for good energy according to Feng Shui are peonies, they bring love and connection. Other popular flowers to create a spring like vibe are tulips & daffodils, or bold blooming lilies.

Trending Color Palettes – Spring flower color palettes that are gaining attention online are mixes of pinks and greens, ranging from baby pinks to peach. Other designers are using a lot of yellow and white, to bring a fresh and bright spring energy into a space.

Plants to Avoid with Pets & Children – If you have cats, you should be avoiding any mixes that contain lilies, as they are poisonous to cats. While chrysanthemums and carnations  aren’t toxic, they can cause an upset stomach so they are best to be avoided. All flowers have a risk of being preserved with chemicals, so it’s best practice to keep them out of reach of your smaller family members! Source.

How to Make Them Last:

There are a million tips and tricks online to extend the life of your flowers, but these three are the most commonly recommended.

  1. Keep the vase clean, make sure to wash it with warm soapy water before the flowers go in, and if you notice it getting dirty then take the flowers out and give it a wash again.
  2. Change the water every 2-3 days, especially on warmer days. Replace it with cool, clean, fresh water.
  3. Cut the stems! Cut the end of each flower stem at a 45 degree angle to increase water absorption and remove dead leaves as they fall off.

With these tips & tricks your home will be blooming with fresh spring energy!
